I am looking forward to taking part in an exhibition exploring our human relationship to plants and the natural world to be held at Wells & Mendip Museum from the 9th June to the 20th June 2026. Featuring the work of Perienne Christian, Hannah Kelly, Vicki King, Helen Stay, Arran Willcocks, Thea Willcocks and my own.
The title of the the exhibition ‘Where the Wild Thyme blows’ is taken from the Shakespearean play ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream.’ Through their different mediums that range between print, collage, weaving, digital drawing and stitch, the artists in this group show have responded to this title and also the more general theme of our connection to plants and the natural world.
As with the dream space of Midsummer the liminal space of art is neither reality nor pure illusion. It is a transitional space, a threshold between one state and another. Reflecting on the themes within the play of magic, illusion and transformation the exhibition invites the viewer to enter this space and to perhaps return home, slightly changed.
Free drop-in workshops designed around these themes will also be held in the exhibition space on Saturday the 13th of June. These are open to all ages. For more information please contact thearaeuk@yahoo.co.uk.
