THE HANDLOOM ROOM
The Handloom Room shop is a celebration of textiles and craft with good, fully traceable provenance.
Founded by Jade Ogden, a handweaver with a passion for textiles, craft and socially engaged arts practice.
- LOCALLY CRAFTED -
Jade Ogden’s handwoven scarves and soft furnishings are made on her table loom in the Mendips, Somerset. She predominantly uses local, undyed Shetland wool from Fernhill Farm, high on the Mendip Hills. Her Truly Mendip range has been made with all wool from under 10 miles away, a fully sustainable, soil-to-soil option. In other ranges, she combines New Lanark wool from a UNESCO world heritage site in Scotland.
- ARTISAN CRAFTED -
Handcrafted textiles from the rural region of Kutch, Gujarat in India. The artisans are members of the ‘United Artisans of Kutch’ collective, from where The Handloom Room buys directly, ensuring that the makers are paid the fair wage that they decide reflects their master craft work. Jade visited the region in 2015, it captured her heart and she has had maintained connections there since.
- SOCIALLY CRAFTED -
A curated collection of craft items made in England and Finland by makers working at social enterprises. These craftspeople have learning disabilities or are recovering from mental health conditions. They're supported to develop their craft practice by the social enterprise, from where we source the craft directly. Up to 60% of sales revenue from The Handloom Room goes back to the organisations supporting the makers.
