THE HANDLOOM ROOM
The Handloom Room shop is a celebration of textiles and craft with good, fully traceable provenance.
Founded by Jade Ogden, a handweaver with a passion for textiles, craft and socially engaged arts practice.
- LOCALLY CRAFTED -
The Locally Crafted range at The Handloom Room features Jade’s handwoven scarves and soft furnishings which have been made on her table loom in the Mendips, Somerset. Jade predominantly uses local undyed Shetland wool from Fernhill Farm, high on the Mendip Hills. She has a scarf range available that has been made with all wool from under 10 miles away, a truly local and sustainable option. In other ranges, she also combines New Lanark wool from a UNESCO world heritage site in Scotland and Donegal Tweed.
- ARTISAN CRAFTED -
The Artisan Crafted range features handcrafted textiles from the rural region of Kutch, Gujarat in India. The artisans are members of the ‘United Artisans of Kutch’ collective, from where The Handloom Room buys directly, ensuring that the makers are paid the wage that they decide upon for their master craft work. Jade visited the region in 2015, it captured her heart and she has had maintained connections there since.
- SOCIALLY CRAFTED -
The Socially Crafted range features craft items made in England and Finland by makers working at social enterprises. These craftspeople have learning disabilities or are recovering from mental health conditions. They're supported to develop their craft practice by the social enterprise, from where we source the craft directly. Up to 60% of sales revenue from The Handloom Room goes back to the organisations supporting the makers.
